Your Software treatment will be formulated by your practitioner to target your skin concerns and reach your goals.
Software formulas are generally well tolerated by patients, and include additional hydrating ingredients with the aim to minimise side effects.
We expect to see some common side effects during the initial stages of treatment, and this is normal, especially if the ingredients are new for your skin.
Potential side effects are usually mild and should ease over time as your skin adjusts to the your formula, which may take anywhere between 4-12 weeks.
Side effects can usually be easily reduced and managed by some simple interventions which you can read more about here.
Possible side effects of topical Software formulas include:
- Itchiness or slight burning/tingling sensation on application
- Irritation
- Dry skin
- Redness
- Peeling/flaky skin
- A possible initial darkening of pigmentation (this will then improve over time)
- Sun sensitivity
- Lightening of the skin (with skin-lightening formulas)
Preventing and minimising side effects
There are a few simple things you can do to minimise the chance of experiencing side effect at with your formula.
Our top tips for application are:
- Ensure skin is completely dry when applying your treatment
- Using the Sandwich method - apply moisturiser 10 minutes before and after your prescription formula
- Start low, go slow - start by using 1-2 pumps of formula twice a week (3-4 days apart) and slowly increase frequency of use as your skin tolerates ****
- Wear SPF50 sunscreen daily, reapplying frequently
